THE Guyana Police Force has not yet been informed by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) of the United States about its search for a Saudi Arabian-born national, Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, who the agency suspects carries a Guyana passport, among passports from other countries.

The FBI news website on Thursday issued a worldwide alert for El Shukrijumah, a 27-year-old Saudi national U.S. Government officials say may be plotting terrorist attacks against the United States as part of al-Qaida network.

Police Commissioner, Mr. Floyd
McDonald, yesterday told the Chronicle the FBI had not officially informed the Guyana Police Force about the case.

He said his only knowledge of the issue was through a photocopy of an e-mail that was passed to him.

He said that in such circumstances the issue will have to be treated as "public information" until he is officially informed by the FBI.

"We will however be on the lookout," he added. (See other story on page five).

According to the FBI information sheet, which posted four different mug shots of the suspect, he also uses a number of aliases, including Adnan G. El Shukri Jumah, Abu Arif, Ja'far Al-Tayer, Jaffar Al-Tayyar, Jafar Tayar and Jaafar Al-Tayyar.

He is about 5-foot-4 and 132 pounds, though he may be heavier, has black hair, black eyes and a Mediterranean complexion, and may be wearing a beard, the FBI said.

The FBI is asking for help from law enforcement agencies and the public in locating El Shukrijumah, who officials say may have been in the Miami area before he disappeared.

"El Shukrijumah is possibly involved with al-Qaida terrorist activities and, if true, poses a serious threat to U.S. citizens and interests worldwide," the FBI statement added.
