This was reported by the Foreign Ministry yesterday, as a result of the just-concluded state visit to China by President Bharrat Jagdeo.
The President was extensively briefed on advances in mushroom planting at the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in Fuzhou. He viewed various species of mushrooms, identified as a "potential area for cooperation between Guyana and China," the ministry said in a release.
He was also introduced to advanced technologies adopted by various companies in tile and timber manufacturing.
In addition, the President witnessed the signing of a friendship agreement between the cities of Georgetown and Fuzhou by their respective mayors.
Prior to that trip, he visited a village in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, which had ancestral links to Guyana.
He met with the Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr. Huang Huahua, whom he commended for the high level of progress made by Guangzhou City in its key role in reforming and opening up China's economy, the ministry said.
The President on Tuesday travelled to Shanghai, where he met Mayor HanZheng before departing for Guyana, it added.
President Jagdeo was accompanied by a number of private sector representatives, who had the opportunity to initiate contacts and explore avenues for expanding business in their respective areas of interest during the March 28 to April 01 state visit.
