The headline of an article in last Sunday's Stabroek News stated `IMF/World Bank team advocates power-sharing mechanisms - to bring stability needed for growth', suggesting that this was an official position of the IMF.
However, the IMF has reiterated that the positions in the article are those of a team of economists: Phillipe Egoume-Bossogo, Ebrima Faal, Raj Nallari and Ethan Weisman who have outlined their opinions within the paper.
Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, in response to the report stated that the Government was not only committed to inclusive governance, but is proud of its leading role in promoting and implementing inclusive governance in Guyana.
He outlined several mechanisms that the Government has put in place to promote inclusive governance including governance through independent autonomous technical and service agencies, establishing consultations as a statutory exercise, promoting dialogue and encouraging civic society/political parties collaboration.
The Government official further posited that he was certain that senior officials of both the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank have observed and are themselves encouraged by the moves of the Guyana Government to institutionalise the principles of inclusive governance in Guyana and would want to see more rapid progress in the concretisation of the provisions already agreed to by all stakeholders and to see, as the President has outlined, other built-in layers to provide opportunities for inclusive governance.
