ANOTHER Trinidadian attached to a Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) project on the East Coast Demerara, was yesterday reported kidnapped by gunmen and was released about three hours later, Police said.

The man was reported well, Police said in a press release.

According to the release, he is employed with United Energy Service, a firm contracted to GWI for the installation of the Rural Water Interconnection System, and was reported kidnapped at about 10:00 hrs at his worksite at Strathspey and taken into Buxton.

Police said four gunmen reportedly arrived at the worksite on bicycles, pushed the Trinidadian into a pick-up van parked nearby and drove off into Buxton.

The vehicle was later found abandoned at nearby Vigilance, the release said.

It could not be confirmed whether a ransom was paid for the release of the Trinidadian.

He was the second Trinidad national attached to GWI projects kidnapped while working on the East Coast.

A gang of 15 men, most of whom were armed, last month kidnapped a Trinidadian near Buxton.

The victim was later released and reported well.

According to the Police, the contractor and other employees were doing excavation works along the Buxton/Annandale Railway Embankment road when the gang abducted him and retreated into Buxton.

Several other workers were reportedly robbed of cash and jewellery by the gang.

GWI said the contractor was an employee of Universal Earth Movers/General Earth Movers Incorporated (UEM/GEM), a firm contracted to work with GWI on the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Water Improvement Project.
