PROGRESS has been made in resolving the outstanding issues that have been influencing the timing of the impending meeting between President Bharrat Jagdeo and Leader of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR), Mr. Robert Corbin, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon has reported.

Speaking at his regular news conference last week, Luncheon reiterated that both parties have made a commitment that the planned meeting will be at the Office of the President at which time the political dialogue is likely to be resumed.

The late PNCR Leader, Mr. Desmond Hoyte, had put the dialogue on "pause" claiming failure on the part of the Government to implement projects agreed upon by the main Opposition party and the Government.

"Notwithstanding the brief encounter of President Jagdeo and Mr. Corbin in Linden during power utility problems, the commitment to meet in Georgetown remains," Luncheon said.

Cabinet has expanded its team of representatives to finalise the arrangements for the meeting between the President and the PNCR Leader.

The team comprises Luncheon and Cabinet Ministers, Ms. Gail Teixeira and Dr. Henry Jeffrey, in addition to Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr. Reepu Daman Persaud who had initiated discussions with the PNCR representative, Mr. Lance Carberry.

On his election as Leader of the PNCR in February this year, Mr. Corbin had indicated his willingness to engage in constructive discussions with President Jagdeo.
