While in Guyana, the tourists witnessed the beauty of the country’s interior before departing at 02:00 hrs. today for Suriname.
Included on their schedule yesterday was a visit to Timberhead Rainforest Resort and the Kaieteur Falls, arranged by Wilderness Explorer.
The M.S. Explorer is on its second trip to Guyana, having made its first visit on August 21st, 1997, according to the staff captain Mr. Nicolay Tililyuk.
The ship, measuring 72 meters in length can accommodate 106 passengers along with a crew of sixty-seven.
The entire cruise totals 12 days and will cover some 2,200 miles. After their stop in Guyana, they will be travelling to Suriname, French Guiana, then to Brazil. The trip started off from Panama.
Reporters were also given a tour of the vessel, which has some 15 cabins and is driven by a 300-horse power engine.
The crew is made up of persons from different countries. The hotel manager is from Sweden, the staff captain Mr. Tililyuk is from Ukraine, and the Captain of the ship Uli Demel is from Germany while most of the crewmembers are from the Philippines.
According to Tililyuk, the tourists who are mostly middle-aged people came from Europe, South America and North America.
Tililyuk noted that the cruise is very expensive since the ship travels to locations, not visited by other ships.
The ship is also equipped with a swimming pool. There is also a spacious lecture hall, where all the passengers are given a safety lecture, the first day on their ship. They are lectured on emergencies and how to deal with them.
A dinner and a reception were also held on the ship yesterday evening where the media was introduced to the tourists.
