After conceding that the West Indies "batted badly" and let down the sell-out crowd which attended the back-to-back One-Day Internationals at Sabina Park, Lara said it will be left up to the selectors when they meet to pick those players who excelled in regional limited overs matches.
"I honestly think that if we have a One-Day tournament, and we have guys doing well in it, they should be given an opportunity," Lara said in a post-match interview.
"Hopefully, we will looking in that direction. I agree that they have been some guys who have not even played much One-Day games for their islands so that in itself is a worry. We are maybe using the international scene as a learning ground for that (but) that's very tough," admitted Lara.
"It is going to be the four of us in that (selection) room that got to make a decision for the betterment of West Indies cricket," added Lara.
Reflecting on Sunday's loss, Lara said everyone, including the spectators "would be disappointed".
"Today was definitely a letdown and we got to accept that. We got to take the responsibility and take ownership of what happens out in the middle," Lara said.
"We are growing, we are trying our best to get things right. I am not going to make excuses that we are playing against the best in the world and you can't expect us to win but I must say that it is going to be a tall order to come out trumps against Australia each and every single time," Lara reasoned.
"We are assessing our game and we are assessing how they are playing and you will definitely see an improved performance in St Lucia," added Lara.
The third One-Day International will be played at the Beausejour Stadium tomorrow.
