WEST Indies have managed one win in five Tests and lost one-day series against Australia and Sri Lanka in the past two months

But if they come out on top in the second Cable and Wireless Test starting at Sabina Park today, they will still be able to look back on the home double-header as a positive experience.

The selectors have continued the process of experimentation begun under previous captain Carl Hooper, with fast bowler Fidel Edwards the latest to be plucked from relative obscurity.

Edwards has been added to the squad picked for the drawn first Test against Sri Lanka and could replace 19-year-old Jerome Taylor in the final eleven.

The two sides are hoping for a clear run of five uninterrupted days after rain prevented a positive result in St Lucia.

The strength of both teams lie in their batting and the tourists must find a way to stem the flow of runs from West Indies skipper Brian Lara.

He made a brilliant 209 in his last innings, making him only the fifth batsman in history to score five or more double centuries in Tests.

"We have a lot of respect for Brian and he has been batting very well," said Sri Lankan captain Hashan Tillekeratne.

"He is a brilliant batsman, but we'll have to raise our bowling standards.

Lara's duel with Muttiah Muralitharan could hold the key to the game and the West Indies skipper is well aware of the threat posed by the spinner.

It was nice to get some runs, but some of our players will have to perform better because he is going to be coming at us strong," said Lara.

"It's a one-off game now. The team that plays better is going to win, and we want to be that team."

Sri Lanka could freshen up their team with Kumar Dharmasena in contention to replace Thilan Samaraweera, who scored 11 and conceded 53 from eight overs in the first Test.
