A number of agencies within the Ministry of Home Affairs are to have their computers linked to one another in a move which may help the war on crime.

A Government Information Agency (GINA) release stated yesterday that the measures to computerize the various agencies were discussed when Home Affairs Minister, Ronald Gajraj met consultants of International Business Machines (IBM) Trinidad.

According to the release, Minister Gajraj noted that the General Register Office (GRO), the Traffic Department, the Licence Revenue Department, the Immigration Department, the Fire Department, the Prison Service and the Secretariat are to be networked. Dale Erskine, Director of Prisons was quoted as saying that computerisation would make it easier for his department to work with the police in gathering and giving information to the police on prisoner records.
