The Guyana Police Force has refuted a statement made by Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Robert Corbin in which he said a segment of the force answers to the Presidential Secretariat.
Corbin made the statement during his speech at the party’s rally on Saturday night.
He had said that members of the Tactical Service Unit (TSU) continued to kill young suspects and answered to the Presidential Secretariat.
In the release the force said it wishes, “to state, pellucidly, that constitutionally, the Commissioner of Police is responsible for the General Superintendence of the Guyana Police Force and as such all sections of this force are under his command and control. These sections report directly to their respective divisional and/or branch commanders. Neither the TSU nor any other section of the force for that matter reports to the Presidential Secretariat”.
