Over 50 youth leaders from Progressive Youth Organisa-tion (PYO) groups attended a leadership retreat hosted by the Youth Affairs Committee (YAC) of the PPP on January 25 at the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, Red House.
A release from the party stated that the aim of the retreat was to “identify and inculcate the qualities of leadership that are necessary to meet the changing demands of today’s political and socio-economic environment.”
Among the issues discussed were governance, dynamic leadership, mobilisation and organisation, demography, youth development and empowerment and crime.
“This retreat comes at a very important juncture of Guyana’s history, a time characterised by a criminal conspiracy to kill, maim, injure and demoralise law enforcement officers, business people and civilians in order to destabilise the democratically elected government,” Donald Ramotar, General Secretary of the PPP, said.
The young leaders, the release said, were drawn from PYO groups in the Corentyne, West Berbice, Essequibo, Linden, West Demerara, East Coast and East Bank Deme-rara and Georgetown.
The YAC will soon be holding follow-up sessions in the three counties for local PYO youth leaders, the release added.
