Guyana's Commonwealth Games gold medalist Aliann Pompey settled for third on Friday when she contested the 400-metre event at a New York indoor meet at Madison Square Garden.
Pompey, who clocked 56.37 seconds on Friday, was beaten into third place by United States' Jearl Miles-Clark (55.08) and Africa's Nadjina (55.15) respectively.
Prior to competing at the meet, Pompey, who was in Guyana just over a week ago, told Stabroek Sport that the 160-metre track at Madison Square Garden was not to her liking.
"I make long strides, so the sharp turns at Madison doesn't suit me.
Who gets the best break can win the race," Pompey had said.
Just over two weeks ago, Pompey had beaten Miles-Clark over a 500-metre course at another indoor meet.
Pompey will represent Guyana at the World Indoor Championships, slated for England next month.
