After a late start owing to a power failure, the National Finals of the Children's Mashramani Competition concluded yesterday at the National Park with Georgetown shining in the dance segment.
The masquerade and dance segments got underway a little after 11 am and closed at 4:30 pm. A marked police presence in the park saw the smooth running of the competitions.
Unlike last Friday no fights broke out, no mace was sprayed, and spectators did not encroach on the tarmac. However the crowd was much smaller compared with the multitude that turned out last week.
The dance competition which had maximum participation saw several outstanding performances, the majority from the Georgetown District. Georgetown dominated the dance segment of the finals winning all but one of the categories.
Emerging as winners in the Georgetown District were Green Acres Nursery, Mae's Under 12, South Ruimveldt Primary, Christ Church Secondary, Sacred Heart Primary and St. Stanislaus College.
