MIAMI, Florida, CMC - Guyana's World Boxing Association (WBA) super-lightweight champion Vivian Harris is set to fight for top American promoter Don King when he steps into the ring for his first title defence.
Don King Productions (DKP) has won the right to promote a super-lightweight contest between the 24-year- old Harris and Frenchman Souleyman Mbaye, submitting the high bid of approximately US$185,000, outbidding Harris' promoter, Main Events.
King, who only recently signed Mbaye, listed Washington, New York and Paris as possible sites and must provide an exact date and venue within two weeks.
The WBA would sanction the bout but the unbeaten Mbaye also has the option of fighting Oktay Urkal instead if he so chooses.
Harris, with a ring record of 22 wins against one loss and one draw, snatched the WBA title last October when he knocked out Cuba-born champion Diosbelys Hurtado in two rounds in Texas.
Mbaye has won all 27 of his professional fights, with 13 knockouts.
