The British High Commission presented a gift of 100 books of classic literature to the University of Guyana library on Friday. High Commissioner Stephen Hiscock handed over the books, which range from the works of Shakespeare to Goethe, in the lobby of the library. He said that with the fast pace of technological development, a person being able to curl up with a good book was becoming a luxury. He called the books "classics from around the world."
On accepting the books, University Vice Chancellor James Rose said he did not believe that any virtual library would ever replace the book in hard copy form.
