Little Akeem Trotman, who was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation a few weeks ago, is up and about and as sprightly as ever in the children’s ward.
The child, who was brought to Stabroek News by a public-spirited citizen who found him begging on the streets, had appeared to be malnourished and a reporter with this newspaper took him to the hospital and he was later admitted.
On Sunday, when Stabroek News paid a visit to the hospital Akeem was busy colouring a book, one of the many gifts he has received from the stream of visitors who had visited him there.
He appeared well rested and with bright eyes told Stabroek News that he was okay and enjoying life at the hospital.
His mother, Melissa Trotman, has been visiting him daily and would take away his dirty clothes and carry fresh ones for him.
The woman, who is a single parent of three and expecting another, had told this newspaper that she would not mind if Akeem is taken into a home where he could be properly looked after for his illness.
Stabroek News understands that the Ministry of Human Services is working closely with the social workers at the hospital in addressing Akeem’s case.
It is understood that even though the child could be discharged, there has been an order for him to remain in the hospital until the officials decide whether he should return home or go into special care.
In the meantime the child appears to very happy with all the care and attention being showered upon him by nurses and his many visitors.
