PPP says aspects of shooting of UG student give rise to unease

The People’s Progressive Party says it has been recognised that aspects of the shooting incident last Saturday when a police patrol opened fire on a group of young men in a car give rise to unease, based on preliminary information.
The party says also the incident “is most regrettable and loss of a life is deeply disturbing.”
The PPP stated in a release that it welcomes the public assurances given by the Commissioner of Police that a thorough and objective investigation will be completed within one week.
The release also expressed the party’s deepest sympathy to the relatives and University of Guyana colleagues of the late Yohance Douglas who died in the tragic incident, and wishes for a complete and early recovery were extended to the others who were injured and traumatised.
The Party said further it “is confident that the Police Force will give this most unfortunate incident the attention it warrants, consistent with its commitment to professional conduct.”
...Chamber expresses condolences
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called for a full and transparent investigation to be carried out into the shooting to death of UG student Yohance Douglas by police on Saturday and the injuring of two colleagues. The chamber also expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and those injured.
