NA hospital site cleared for construction next month

The Canje site for the new $2 billion hospital in New Amsterdam, near the Psychiatric Hospital, was cleared recently and construction is expected to begin next month.
The second phase of the project includes construction by a Japanese firm over some 14 months.
The hospital is to be equipped with modern facilities and will accommodate 150 beds.
However, some persons are critical of the new site for the hospital since several schools are in close proximity.
According to reports, the old hospital building would be maintained as a heritage site.
