The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) is calling for the immediate dismissal of Minister of Home Affairs, Ronald Gajraj and acting Police Commissioner, Floyd McDonald in the wake of the police killing of University of Guyana student, Yohance Douglas.
At a press conference at the union’s headquarters yesterday, the union further demanded the appointment of a commission of inquiry to be headed by a member of the judiciary of a sister Caribbean Community (CARICOM) territory to look into the shooting.
The GPSU also demanded the appointment of an independent prosecutor agreed upon by the government, the opposition and the bar association to prosecute charges.
According to the union in a prepared statement, Douglas’ killing must not go unpunished.
The union said that the history of crime fighting informs that the more brutal the police, the more vicious the response would be from criminal elements.
