Lindeners came out and partied hard on Sunday in celebration of 33 years of Guyana being a republic with their annual Mash festivities.
Residents ignoring the threat of rain lined the route from west of the Demerara River to view the floats and costume bands as they passed.
The parade began around 1:30 pm and winded its way from the Bayroc Community Centre in Wisroc, down Winifred Gaskin road and snaked through the communities of One Mile, Half Mile and Silver City.
After crossing the Wismar to McKenzie bridge and passing through the Watooka area including the bauxite plant, the revellers headed for Independence Avenue on the way to the McKenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground.
They were met by a sizable crowd including many families who had made the early afternoon trip from various wards in the community to be part of the festivities.
There were three floats along with costumed and tee shirt revellers from the three participating bands including a masquerade band.
Those sponsoring floats for the parade were the Regional Democratic Council, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and Banks DIH Ltd.
There were some hiccups especially when the bands arrived at the MSC and the musical accompaniment was unable to enter the ground due to the size of the truck on which it was mounted.
But the crowd was entertained by the Mad Cow and Mother Sally of the masquerade band instead.
Numerous roadside jams continued well into the night.
