The Working People’s Alliance in a tribute to the late veteran trade unionist Joseph Pollydore said he had personified “the best and ablest in Guyana’s trade unionism.”
But the party is pained that the condition of the working class today does not bear testimony to all that Pollydore had contributed, nor does it represent what they deserve, said a release from Rodney House, the WPA headquarters.
The WPA said further that while trade unionism in Guyana has been a tale of conflict and confrontation, and a constant test of will, resolve, organisation and negotiating skills, Pollydore had embraced all the qualities needed for those tasks and also mastered the art of resolving conflict as he promoted the interests of the working class.
The party also saluted the former General Secretary of the Guyana Trades Union Congress, who passed away at age 94 on February 26, as a man who never lost the common touch nor a sense of direction of the workers’ struggle.
The WPA extended its condolences to his bereaved relatives, friends, colleagues, members of the working class and all those persons whose lives Pollydore had touched.
