Ms Guyana Universe 2003, Leanna Damond, has been made an Ambassador-at-large for Iwokrama.
Damon has chosen the conservation and sustainable utilisation of biodiversity as her platform for the Miss Universe pageant to be held in Panama in May, and according to a release from the Iwokrama Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development, they have agreed to help Damond in her undertaking, and have made her the organisation's Ambassador-at-large.
Damond, along with her chaperone, Nicolette Lumumba, and a television crew left on Thursday for a three-day visit to Iwokrama. During her visit, she met with the Iwokrama rangers and community leaders to learn more about the real issues involved in conservation.
The queen will also be filming a 15-minute video to promote her platform which will be sent to the Miss Universe organisers. It will also be part of the world promotion for the event.
The press release stated that Damond opted for Iwokrama's help as she was aware that they were the leading organisation in the promotion of conservation and sustainable utilisation. It noted that the queen has been following the work done by the Iwokrama Centre for the past year and was very impressed, and as a consequence of what she had learnt from Iwokrama she had chosen this platform.
