Help and Shelter yesterday announced that its home for abused women and their children will reopen by weekend, following a $3 million grant from government last Thursday.
The NGO has expressed its gratitude to the government for positively responding to its plea for assistance.
The agency works to alleviate the impact of domestic violence and sexual abuse and besides managing the shelter, it also runs a crisis counselling service and public education and advocacy programmes.
A release from the agency gave the assurance that "the funds will be used with the utmost transparency and accountability."
According to the release, the grant funds at current levels of expenditure will cover operating costs for the shelter for 9 to 10 months.
The agency said it will continue to raise funds for its operations through various avenues, including income-generating projects, fund-raising events, and donor agency-funded projects, the release added.
