The D’Urban Backlands shooting victim was yesterday identified as 23-year-old, Shelton Bacchus of Buxton Sideline Dam.

Bacchus’ bullet-riddled body was discovered early Monday morning behind the Botanical Gardens in what appears to have been an execution killing.

A release from the Police Public Relations department yesterday confirmed the identity of Bacchus along with that of 28-year-old West Ruimveldt resident, Winston Burrowes whose body was discovered on a dam behind the Eastville Housing Scheme in Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to the police, Bacchus had up to February resided in Cayenne, French Guiana before returning home and had taken up residence with his mother at Lot 79 Buxton Sideline Dam.

It still remains unclear how the Buxtonian along with the city resident met their deaths.

Information suggests that they may have suffered physical torture prior to being shot repeatedly as marks of violence were said to have been clearly visible on their bodies.

Bacchus whose body had been discovered in a secluded area of the city bore multiple gunshot wounds to the head, back and buttocks. In recent weeks there have been several other cases where men have been shot dead execution-style.
