The PPP has extended its sincere Easter greetings to all Guyanese, particularly to the brothers and sisters of the Christian community.

A message from the party said that it is important to remember that this season is both Good Friday and Easter - the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. The party also noted that “the season represents the struggle to death on-the-cross suffering on behalf of all humanity and the need to continue to reconcile with one another across the divisions of race, religion and partisan politics, and across the hostility, hate and suspicion which these divisions engender.”

Rise above hate, intolerance
-Mayor Green

Easter is a time when members of the Christian community worldwide speak of love, compassion and sacrifice - necessary values to save to world and all mankind from pain and destruction. So said Mayor Hamilton Green in his message observing the festival of Easter.

The Mayor expressed the hope that our society would “lift itself above hate, intolerance and selfishness and embrace love, tolerance and selflessness.” He stated that the path to knowledge, unity and real peace was something that we all needed to find in ourselves. He posited that more than ever, all Guyanese needed to “lift themselves to that point beyond self-centricity, where we can truly see the brotherhood of man.” According to Green, the supreme sacrifice embodied in Easter should compel us all, both Christians and non-Christians, to work towards lifting the moral tone and spirituality of our families and society.

President hopes Easter will awaken conviction to do what is right
President Bharrat Jagdeo says he is hoping that Easter will awaken in all Guyanese “that sureness of purpose and that certainty of our conviction to do what is right in our country.”

The President in a message extending wishes for a blessed and joyous Easter to the entire nation, especially the Christian community in their commemoration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, said “may this Easter also help us to appreciate the countless sacrifices of all those who have paid the ultimate price so that peace, order and goodwill can prevail in Guyana.”
