A report into the kidnapping of US diplomat Stephen Lesniak, prepared by a team of US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials, is in the possession of law enforcement officials and is expected to engage the attention of police officers at their annual conference which opened yesterday.
The report, Stabroek News understands, contains information gleaned by the US investigators during their visit here following the kidnapping of the US Embassy's Chief Security Officer on April 12.
Lesniak, 35, was snatched from the Lusignan Golf Course by two gun-toting teenagers who took him to the trouble village of Buxton from where he was later released several hours later on payment of a ransom.
Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said yesterday that the public may be informed by the police as to its contents once the law enforcement authorities had fully assessed it.
He further requested some time to allow the report to be properly digested by the security authorities.
Officers of the FBI have been in the country investigating in collaboration with local security forces, the kidnapping of Lesniak and the extortion of sums for his release.
The government and the US embassy have been silent on the progress of investigations into the incident although acknowledging that the FBI team had been engaged in discussions with various officials in the governmental and security sectors.
