Interviews are being held to select the final batch of students for scholarship places in Cuba in time for their September departure.

The current batch is expected to number around 70 and is being evaluated for places in the fields of Dentistry, Health Sciences and Para-Professional services.

At last week’s post cabinet-press briefing, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said this batch would be the latest instalment of the 350 scholarships awarded by the Cuban government over three years.

One hundred and twenty-four persons departed last year to commence studies in the fields of medicine, engineering, dentistry, agricultural science, sports and culture.

A decision was taken earlier this year to stagger the sending of students resulting in a switching of the date of departure from March to September.

The Office of the President is the agency responsible for the selection and processing of persons who are to take part in the programme.
