Guyana's lone professional boxer Andre `Stone' Purlett will have his second fight for 2003 when he battles American Lance `Mount' Whitaker on May 16 in San Antonio, Texas.
Purlett is now being trained by fellow Guyanese Darius Ford in Florida. The fight will be televised live by ESPN and will be Purlett's second for 2003.
In March Purlett, who has only lost once in over 37 fights, secured a third round knock out over Wade Lewis. The hard-hitting Guyanese said yesterday that he was scheduled to fight Whitaker earlier in the year but the fight never came off.
The up-coming bout will be over 10 rounds and a victory is expected to put Purlett into the top 15 of the World Boxing Council. The 29-year-old Guyanese won the WBC Latin America heavyweight title last year after stopping Crawford Grimsley in the third round.
The fight was held in the Czech Republic. (Steve Ninvalle)
