President Bharrat Jagdeo and PNCR leader Robert Corbin held talks up to late last night at the Office of the President discussing issues of concern to both the government and the parliamentary opposition.
Their meeting began at 3 pm and adjourned at around 7.30 pm only to resume at 8.30 pm. Up to press time there was no statement on the outcome of the meeting.
Stabroek News understands that among the issues before the two leaders was a proposed timetable for the implementation for the decisions that were taken during the Jagdeo/Hoyte dialogue but were not implemented. Also on the agenda was the PNCR's position on shared governance and the PPP/C's position on inclusive governance.
Last night's discussion is a continuation of the "constructive engagement" President Jagdeo and Corbin began on Friday morning.
That meeting was made possible by a marathon session between their emissaries, which allowed them to reach agreement on a number issues related to parliamentary reform. Those reforms cleared the way for Corbin to agree to be elected Leader of the Opposition, the PNCR parliamentarians to resume their seats in the National Assembly and for Corbin to participate meaningfully in the swearing-in ceremony for nine of the fourteen members and substitute members of the Ethnic Relations Commission.
