Two police witnesses took the witness stand when the Preliminary Inquiry into the charges against Nazir Hamid and Yusuf Rahaman, the two men accused of murdering 14-year-old orphan Raheem Abdool, continued yesterday before Senior Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
Detective Corporal 12383 Clensford Burnette and Detective Constable 18295 Anantram Jagnandan were the second and third police witnesses, respectively, who were led by the prosecution yesterday when the hearing continued.
Hamid, 37, the former acting CEO of the Shaheed (Sad’r) Boys Orphanage and Rahaman, 26, called `Kenneth,’ a former resident of the institution who worked for Hamid are jointly charged for the murder of Abdool, who resided in the institution.
Burnette, who is stationed at the Divisional Headquarters at Cove and John, East Coast Demerara, and is attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as a crime scene photographer, was led in evidence by State Prosecutor Paula Gilford, who is appearing in association with Simone Bullen. Upon completion of his testimony he was subject to cross-examination by attorney Vic Puran, who is appearing for both men.
Jagnandan, who is stationed at the Sparen-daam Police Station, and is attached to the CID, also testified and was subject to a brief cross-examination by the defence attorney. He will be recalled to continue his testimony at the next hearing which will continue on June 16.
