The five men charged for the $43M Securicor van robbery were again refused bail and further remanded to prison when they appeared before Magistrate Brassington Reynolds at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Two Securicor guards, Neville Holder, of 196 Kuru Kuru, Linden-Soesdyke Highway; and Keith Caesar, of 43 Norton Street, Lodge; as well as Mark McDonald, of 43 Melanie Damishana, Squatting Area, a driver with the security firm, are jointly charged with Moses Denhart, of 28 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge and Godfrey Clarke Smith, of Albouystown, of two counts of simple larceny. An arrest warrant has been issued for another man, Rohan Khan, who has also been implicated in the heist.
According to the particulars of the charges against the men, the robbery was committed on Thursday May 29 at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, where they allegedly stole $43.8M, the property of Scotiabank. The men are also alleged to have stolen two Taurus handguns, a 12-gauge shotgun, a cellular phone and a hand held radio set, all the property of Securicor.
Meanwhile, Caesar’s reputed wife, Yvette Dodson, 44, and Khan’s reputed wife, Nazareen Hack, 38, of Lamaha Railway Embankment, have also been charged for receiving stolen articles. Police allege that approximately $11.9M was found at the East Bank home Dodson shared with Caesar, while $3.8M was found in Khan’s house. They were arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where they will reappear on Friday for a bail hearing.
Stabroek News understands that bail applications made by the attorneys for the men, Neil Boston for Smith and Senior Counsel George Jackman for Holder, were not entertained by the Magistrate on the grounds that the Police Prosecutor, being without the case file, was unable to describe the degree of involvement of each of the accused.
The hearing will continue tomorrow.
