Guyanese for US Scholar Athletes’ Games

Former St. Joseph’s High School student Nicola Perreira will be among 1500 participants at this years’ United States Scholar Athletes Games in Rhode Island slated for June 21-28.
Participants to these games are chosen from a very select group of applicants from around the world based on their extra curricular activities, academic achievements, athleticism and community involvement. They must have also completed grades 9-12 and be talented in athletics or fine arts.
The games are an annual event and were conceived by Dan Doyle and are administered by the Institute for International Sport.
The keynote speaker at the games this year is former Mayor of New York Rudolph Giuliani.
Nicola who is at present an accountancy student is actively involved in youth activities at the Sacred Heart Parish. She is also an assistant swimming instructor with Orca Swim Club.
While in the US Nicola intends to showcase Guyana as a tourist destination, highlighting its eco-tourism with particular emphasis on the international importance of the Iwokrama Rainforest Project.
