Drivers on the East Bank and East Coast of Demerara might be surprised in the coming weeks to be stopped and asked what their final destination is and where they started their journey.

It is all part of efforts to develop the new southern entrance to Georgetown from Timehri airport which include the Ministry of Public Works and Communications conducting an origin-destination survey to collect data to support the future road network improvements.

As a means of conducting the survey, roadside interview stations will gather information from commuters as to the purpose of their journey, origin and destination. Accord-ing to a press release from Split Image, the ministry is seeking the co-operation of the public in conducting the interviews.

The survey is to be undertaken from 6 am to 6 pm on weekdays and will be held at five different locations, three of which will be sited on the East Bank Demerara.

The other two will be located on the East Coast Demerara and an area of the Railway Embankment roadway, close to the eastern side of the city.

Each interview station would be controlled by a police officer whose duty it would be to direct a number of vehicles to the side of the road for the interview to be conducted.

The release says the questions would be short with all information being kept strictly confidential and only being used for road network planning purposes.

Minibus operators traversing the routes would be exempted from this phase of the exercise since a separate survey is to be held for them.
