The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved a US$19.1M loan for a road improvement project in Guyana.
The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, decreased vehicle operating costs and contribute to improved road safety for sections of the roads which link the West Coast Demerara and the East and West Bank areas of the Demerara River to Georgetown.
The government is expected to issue tender documents this month, and award construction contracts by September this year, while construction is estimated to extend over a period of 18 months.
The project will be the third major road improvement project in Guyana financed by the CDB.
Approval was granted at the 206th meeting of the CDB Board in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis in May last under the Chairmanship of CDB President Dr. Compton Bourne.
