The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) salutes the memory of the 1973 Ballot Box Martyrs Bholanath Parmanand and Jagan Ramessar as well as the 2002 PPP Congress Martyr Balram Kanhai.
MANY Catholics and others are seeking the judgment of the Catholic Church in Guyana concerning non-discrimination on grounds of ‘sexual orientation’, which is the subject of a Bill currently before Parliament.
The IAC calls upon all Guyanese to remember the courage and sacrifice of the Ballot Box Martyrs Parmanand and Ramessar who were assassinated, as they resolutely resisted the deliberate, cruel and criminal disenfranchisement of the people by personnel of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) acting as loyal agents of the PNC regime in total disregard of their constitutional duties during the 1973 General Elections which were blatantly and criminally rigged by the Burnham dictatorship.
The IAC also calls upon all Guyanese to remember the brutal slaying of Balram Kanhai, a promising student who had received a Cuban scholarship and was about to depart for Cuba, by armed criminal elements belonging to the extremist Afro-Guyanese terrorist lunatic fringe that waged an inhuman and unconscionable war on our people and mainly on Indo-Guyanese following the 2002 Mashramani Day jail break.
The IAC calls upon the Director of Public Prosecutions who is vested with these powers under the constitution, to bring to justice the perpetrators of these heinous crimes, committed by well-known and prominent members in society today.
The IAC is also calling upon the Disciplined Forces Commission to inquire into the conduct of the GDF and the Guyana Police Force during the several rigged elections in which they acted as willing agents of the illegal PNC regime and in doing so aided and abetted the PNC dictatorship in the violation of the human rights of and in the disenfranchisement of the Indo-Guyanese.
The IAC mourns the deaths of Parmanand, Ramessar, and Kanhai and calls upon all Guyanese to recognize that their actions which lead to their martyrdom were patriotic and in the cause of national unity. (IAC)
