Guyana look to do well in squash team championships

WITH the leading medal haul in the Individual championships, Guyana go into the Western Union/Supligen Caribbean Junior Squash team championships, today, as the favourites.
Guyana should retain the Girls team crown, with almost definite dominance in the Girls Under-19 division in which Andrea King and Tiffany Solomon produce Gold and Silver in the Individuals, playing unbeaten over the other countries. They could again dominate the division in the team championship, the only division in which two players represent their country.
Kristina King is expected to repeat her individual performance in the Under-17 division, while sister Daina King could produce invaluable wins in the Under-13 division.
The only division Guyana have to worry somewhat is the Under-15 because no local player reached the final four and Barbadian Bo Harris could dominate it.
In the Boys team, the Guyanese team could dethrone defending champions Barbados, but the crucial decision is placing Damien Da Silva and Stanley Marcus Jr, one or the other in the Under-19 division to join Gerard Greaves.
Either one should dominate the Under-17 division but Rhett Cumberbatch could give Barbados crucial victories.
Again either one could produce crucial wins in the Under-19 division, which Bermudan James Stoute convincingly won in the Individuals.
Barbados should dominate the Boys Under-15, but Kristian Jeffrey could again give Guyana crucial wins.
Both Guyana and Barbados reached the final four in the Under-13 individual and would be fighting for wins in that division.
Last year, Guyana and Barbados tied on points. They also tied on matches and Guyana lost the overall title by one game. Thus apart from winning matches, winning the games within the matches is equally important.
The first matches serve off at 9:00 hrs. All encounters will be played at the Georgetown Club. (Isaiah Chappelle).
