Ten more deportees arrive in Guyana

TEN more Guyanese were recently deported from the United States of America and Canada after being incarcerated in those countries for a range of criminal offences.

Sean Anthony Correia, 20, of Lot 3 Bagostown, East Bank Demerara, was deported from the United States on July 8, 2003 for the offence of burglary.

According to the Police, Correia departed Guyana legally in 1983 for the United States. On December 1, 2002, he was arrested with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court on several occasions but was placed on a bond. Subsequently, Correia was detained by the Immigration authorities and later deported.

Jerome Antonio Allicock, 34, of 95 Pike Street, Kitty or Parika Village, East Bank Essequibo, was deported on July 10, 2003 for the offence of domestic assault.

Police say that Allicock left this country legally for the United States in March 1979. On December 1, 2002, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. Allicock appeared in Court and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. On completion of nine months, he was released into the custody of Immigration and later deported.

Rodwell Sherwin Anderson, 25, of Lot 66 Barr Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was sent home from the United States on July 7, 2003 after being convicted for attempted burglary and possession of firearm.

According to the Police, Anderson left his homeland legally in 1996, and travelled to the United States. In October 1998, he was arrested and charged with attempted burglary for which offence, he appeared in Court and was placed on five years probation. Late in May 2001, Anderson was again arrested and charged with possession of firearm. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment. On completion of the sentence, he was released into the custody of Immigration and later deported.

Rudolph Thomas, 28, of Wismar, Linden, was sent back to his homeland from the United States after being incarcerated for the sale of narcotics.

Thomas is reported to have left Guyana legally for the United States in August 1991. Late in September 1998, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to one and a half to three years’ imprisonment. On completion of six months of the sentence, he was deported.

Nairam Thakurdyal, 24, of 39 Albion Guava Bush, Corentyne Berbice, was deported from the United States in June this year after serving part of a jail term for the offence of trafficking in narcotics.

Police report that Thakurdyal migrated to the United States legally in October 1986. In March 2002, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to two to six years’ imprisonment. On completion of one year of his sentence, Thakurdyal was released into the custody of Immigration, and later deported.

Harold Jaisingh, 61, of Market Street, Grove East Bank Demerara, was sent back to his homeland at the end of June 2003 after being incarcerated in the United States for the possession of a stolen document.

According to the Police, Jaisingh departed Guyana legally in August 1982 for the United States. In October 2001, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to ten months imprisonment. On completion of six months, Jaisingh was released into the custody of Immigration and later deported.

Dennis Naughton, 22, of 184 James and Garnett Streets, Albouystown, Georgetown, was deported from Canada last June for the offence of robbery.

Naughton is reported to have left this country legally in July 1995 for Canada. In October 1998, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to four years imprisonment. On completion of three years of his sentence, Naughton was released into the custody of Immigration and later deported.

Repudeman Seeparsuad, 35, of 57 Canefieled Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, was deported from the United States in June this year for the offence of endangering the life of a minor.

Seeparsuad, departed Guyana legally in 1996 for the United States. In November 1997, he was charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court and pleaded not guilty. Later in his trial, he pleaded guilty and was held in custody until he was sent back home.

Aubrey Gittens, 47, of 86 Hill Street Lodge, Georgetown, was deported from Canada last June for the offences of fraud and robbery.

Gittens, the Police say, left Guyana legally for Canada in 1965. In 1989, he was arrested and charged with fraud. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment. On completion of his sentence, he was released. In 1990, Gittens was again arrested and charged with robbery. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. On completion of five years, he was released. In April 2001, he was again arrested and charged with robbery. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to three years. After serving his sentence, Gittens was deported.

Shawn Nicholson, 32, of Litchfield Village, West Coast Berbice, was sent home last June from the United States for being found in possession of narcotics.

The Police stated that Nicholson migrated to the United States in 1993. In July 1997, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in Court and was sentenced to two and a half to four years imprisonment. On completion of three years, he was released into the custody of Immigration and later deported.
