MAGISTRATE Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday deferred her ruling on whether or not a prima facie case has been made out against the accused in the orphan murder case.
The decision will now be made known on Friday, September 5, she announced yesterday when Nazeer Hamid and Yusuf Rahaman make another appearance on the charge that they unlawfully killed 14-year-old Raheem Abdool, who was living at United Sad’r Islamic Anjuman Orphanage in Alexander Street, Kitty.
Meantime, Hamid and Rahaman were further remanded to prison.
State Counsel Simone Bullen and Paula Gilford, from the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Defence Counsel Vic Puran, for Hamid, were all present when the announcement was made.
Hamid, of Lot 51 Russell and Evans Street, Charlestown and Rahaman, of Lot 84 Garnett Street, Newtown, both Georgetown addresses, are alleged to have murdered Abdool, whose partly decomposed body was found on the railway embankment at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, after he was reported missing between December 16 and 17, last year.
Hamid is Chief Executive Officer of the orphanage and Manager of Rahaman’s Spare Parts, also in the city, where Rahaman is employed, as well.
