Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen yesterday refuted stories carried in yesterday’s editions of the Guyana Chronicle and Kaieteur News.

Holder-Allen in a statement to Stabroek News said the two newspapers had carried news reports that were inaccurate.

The Guyana Chronicle on page three yesterday reported that spiritual leader Patricia Alves was committed to stand jury trial for murder. The report also said Holder-Allen had found that a prima facie case had been made out against Alves.

The Chief Magistrate in her statement noted that the murder accused was not committed to stand jury trial, adding that the preliminary inquiry continues today. This had been accurately reported in yesterday’s edition of Stabroek News.

Kaieteur News reported on page 10 that the sixteen-year-old Buxton lad who was sent to the New Opportunity Corps was initially fined $100,000 but it was withdrawn after his mother said she could not pay the sum.

The Chief Magistrate said the lad was not ordered to pay the sum. According to her the fine was imposed on the lad’s mother as an alternative penalty but it was not pursued after the boy was committed.
