The trial is set to commence on Thursday in the discovery of 133 pounds of marijuana aboard the army’s flagship two months ago.

The two soldiers implicated in the find appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen yesterday and were further remanded to prison.

Able Ratings Wayne Inniss and Ordinary Ratings Shandy Stephens were jointly charged on July 16 with trafficking in narcotics. Inniss was also separately charged with trafficking in narcotics.

The ex-soldiers had appeared before Principal Magistrate Cecil Sullivan on July 16 and were remanded to prison after denying the charge. Inniss resides at 130 Lamaha Springs while Stephens lives at 188 Dacama Circle, Linden.

It is alleged that the duo conspired with each other and other persons sometime between May 1 and 11 to transport and export 60 kilos, 618 grammes of cannabis. Inniss allegedly transported and exported a similar quantity during the said period. Attorney-at-law Vic Puran appeared on the men’s behalf.
