The lone winner was Jody Ann Blake who defeated Alana Russell 11-6, 11-1, 11-8.
Thereafter it was all Barbados. Having lost to the Guyanese girls on Tuesday night, the bajans needed to win to stay in contention and win they did.
Vida Moore fought gamely but lost to Sherry Felix 11-4, 9-11, 12-10, 8-11, 6-11 and Delicia Cummings went under to Tara Burrowes 7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 8-11.
It was left up to Moore who had beaten Felix on Tuesday night to maintain her superiority and it looked like she would do just that when she won the first game 14-12 and the second 11-8. She then squandered her advantage with loose play allowing her opponent to get back into the game.
Felix took the next two games 11-6, 11-9 before triumphing 11-9 in the fifth and final game.
Had Guyana won one more game they would have been girls champions. As it is they have to await the outcome of the final round match between Trinidad and Barbados.
In the other afternoon game Barbados squeezed past Trinidad again by a 3-2 margin despite a determined effort by young Khaleel Asgaralli. Son of former player Nyron Asgaralli, the youngster played two outstanding matches first against the highly talented Anderson Carrington whom he defeated 3-2 in a match that produced high quality tennis and then against nemesis Kevin Farley who had beaten him 3-1 in their earlier clash. This time it took a `chink’ with the score 9-9 for Farley to squeeze home leaving Carrington to close out the tie.
In matches yesterday morning Barbados girls team defeated Trinidad 3-1 while Guyana boys went under 1-3 to Barbados. The lone winner for Guyana was Jonathan Sankar who defeated Carrington 4-11, 11-8, 17-15, 11-4.
In other results Farley defeated Michael Waithe 11-7, 11-5, 11-8, Jade Padmore defeated Michael John 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 and Farley defeated Sankar 11-7, 11-9, 11-5.
