The local lasses are also unbeaten to date and are set to face Barbados in a virtual girls team final today.
By virtue of topping their pool, the local boys team will face pool `B’ runner-up, Barbados today, in one of two semi-final matches. Serve off time is 6pm.
Yesterday, the Guyanese boys defeated their counterparts from the Bahamas 5-0, through victories from Damien DaSilva, Raphael DeGroot, Ryan Farnum, Kristian Jeffrey and Stanley Marcus.
On Wednesday, the local boys team beat Jamaica 4-1 and the OECS 5-0.
In yesterday’s matches against the Bahamas, the local boys won three consecutive matches without dropping a single point through victories from DaSilva who beat Scott Jupp (9-0, 9-0, 9-0), DeGroot who blew away Leonardo Smith (9-0, -0, 9-0) and Farnum who trashed Chad Rolle (9-0, 9-0, 9-0).
In the other two matches, Jeffrey beat Clifford Bodie 9-5, 9-1, 9-7 and Stanley Marcus defeated Delano Ferguson 9-3, 9-0, 9-1.
In girls action yesterday, Guyana beat Jamaica 4-1 with victories from Kristina King who beat Tracy Binnie 9-5, 9-2, 9-3 and Daina King who got past Haley Foreman 9-2, 9-1, 6-9, 9-0. Andrea King and Tiffany Solomon both won by default since jamaica did not field any under-19 girls.
Jamaica’s lone victory came from Kristine Bell in an under-13 fixture. She defeated Dominique Dias 2-9, 0-9, 2-9.
The local girls also beat Bermuda 4-1 on Wednesday and was billed to tackle Trinidad and Tobago last evening.
Unlike the boys team championships which is being played in two pools with the winner and runner-up of each pool advancing to the semi-final round, the girls team championship is being played on a round robin basis.
On Wednesday night, Guyana’s Gerard Greaves turned in a sterling performance when he faced Jamaica’s Brad Low.
Greaves who lost the first two games (8-10, 7-9) stormed back to win the other three 9-7, 9-7, 9-1.
From the first game, Greaves had Low doing a lot of miles around the court as he placed the ball well from the front wall to the sides and at times getting in soft touches that had Low running non-stop. Low however prevailed.
In game two, the pattern was the same, but by this time Low was a tired athlete that lost his concentration. Once again, Greaves made him burn up lots of calories and went on to win three consecutive games.
In other results from yesterday’s girls matches, Barbados trounced OECS 5-0; (Barbados players named first) Sherice MacDonald beat Nicole DeGale 9-1, 9-0, 9-1, Maia Blackman defeated Christianna Andrew-Rose 9-0, 9-4, 9-1, Nadia McCarthy beat Christa Bonnett 9-3, 9-0, 9-0, Bo Harris beat Amber Glasgow 9-7, 9-0, 9-0 and Cheri-Ann Parris beat Sherina Slater 9-1, 9-0, 9-0.
Trinidad also registered a victory yesterday, they edged Bermuda 3-2. (Trinidad players named first) Jaime Galt beat Jessica Mitchell 9-5, 9-0, 0-9, 9-3, Joanna Scoon lost to Kathy Lennox 0-9, 2-9, 1-9, Tessa Martin lost to Laura Robinson 4-9, 1-9, 0-9, while Nakita Poon Kong and Emily Bones won by default since Bermuda only fielded three girls.
In the Guyana versus Jamaica fixture on Wednesday, Marcus beat Michael Anderson 9-4, 9-2, 9-1, DaSilva defeated beat David Patterson 9-0, 9-6, 9-1, DeGroot got past Adam Hugh 9-0, 9-5, 9-1 and Jeffrey lost to Chris Binnie 7-9, 0-9, 0-9.
On the same day, OECS beat Bahamas 4-1 through victories from Dominique Rivers who beat Rolle 10-9, 7-9, 9-1, 9-2, Jason Lang who defeated Ferguson 9-7, 9-7, 9-7, Shane Slater who beat Jupp 9-1, 9-6, 9-1, and Diarra Venner who defeated Smith 9-0, 9-0, 9-4. Bahamas’ lone victory came from Cliff Bodie who beat Marlon James 9-6, 9-3, 9-3.
Bermuda beat Barbados 3-2 through victories from under-19 individual champion James Stout who defeated Steven Miller 9-0, 9-2, 9-3, Andrew Robinson who beat Alex Garcia 9-1, 9-2, 9-3 and Michael Shrubb who beat Rhett Cumberbatch 5-9, 9-5, 9-6, 10-8.
Barbados’ victories came from Bryant Cumberbatch who beat Robert Maycock 9-0, 9-2, 9-1 and Akil Ross who beat Robert Forbes 10-9, 2-9, 9-6, 9-0.
