Recently, world Class junior welterweight titlists, and BK representatives, “Vicious” Vivian Harris and Zab “Super” Judah got into a war of words on New York City’s most listened to hip hop station, Hot 97.
The conversation quickly became an argument, the majority of their airtime consisted of both exchanging un- pleasantries in ways only folks from Brooklyn can. But hey, they got a lot of New Yorkers talking, many of which, aren’t boxing fans, so mission accomplished.
Boxingtalk.com spoke with WBA junior welterweight titlist Vivian Harris to see what he had to say about the Judah incident, the WBA ordering his shot at undisputed champion Kostya Tszyu and more.
GL: What’s good Viv?
VH: Just chilling Greg, waiting for the big fights to come my way.,
GL: The WBA recently deemed Tszyu Vs, Harris, but he’s already scheduled to face Sharmba Mitchell in February, so what are your thoughts on that whole situation?
VH: I wish Kostya Tszyu good luck in that fight, but I’d be happier if he fights me. It would be a better fight if he fought me. He already fought Mitchell, and he’s all talk, he’s nothing and he’s not about doing anything. I don’t think the public really wants to see that fight, but it is a good fight and I wish Tszyu good luck because I don’t like Sharmba Mitchell.
GL: So in your opinion you deserve the shot.
VH: (cutting me off) Yeah definitely. It would be a much better fight with me and Kostya Tszyu, because it would be two guys fighting. Not one guy trying to fight and the other fighter running.
GL: A couple of weeks you and Zab Judah got into it on Hot 97. Explain how that went down.
VH: That’s all bout me and Zab going at it for that Brooklyn spot. He’s fronting like he’s the king of Brooklyn, but I’m the king of Brooklyn and he should know that. I don’t care about who Zab fought, because he’s beaten nobody and he’s still a little kid to me. The only person he fought was Kostya Tszyu and he got knocked out. He fought a bum to get the title and he defended it against bums.
I would have knocked every one of them out. The only real junior welterweights out there right now are Kostya Tszyu. I don’t care what nobody says. Zab is nothing, he’s a bum talking a lot of s... Main Events put him in a bunch of easy fights to get him number one. He got a easy fight for the title, and he still got dropped against that bum, and where did they find the kid he fought before the Kostya Tszyu fight?
He knows I know he’s scared of me. I speak the truth, I asked him why he always runs up on the other junior welterweights and gets in their face to make fight, but not mine. And he didn’t say one word, because he knows the deal. He can’t say nothing. But behind the scenes, when he does his interviews he always has something to say. He acts like he’s from the hood, but he’s nothing. He don’t represent the hood. I’m in the hood right now, where is he? The funny thing is, every time he sees me, he just gives me mad love.
GL: How did this all start?
VH: When I was training for the last fight, every interview I did I had someone telling me that Zab wanted to fight me after the fight. And like I said, when he sees me all he does is show me love and talk s... behind my back. I’m not feeling that. All he have to do is say, ‘look Viv, let’s fight.’ So it was me who decided to go on Hot 97 and tell everybody that I want Zab Judah and I’ll knock Zab Judah out.
GL: Have you seen him since this incident?
VH: Yeah, and he showed me love the same way! If you speak to him and he starts talking s..., tell him to stop lying to you, because that’s all he’ll do. The other night I went to a party and I saw him and he gave me love, then the next day I get a call from this girl who tells me how he was talking s... when I left. I just hate fake —— for real, he’s not a Brooklyn cat, and he needs to stop lying. He’s not from the hood, he’s a home brought up guy, he’s not from the street. I am. Zab Judah is a bum.
GL: So what’s next for Vivian Harris?
VH: Well I want to fight Kostya Tszyu more than anything, and he is a great fighter. If not, maybe I’ll fight that bum Zab Judah or that next bum Floyd Mayweather, They’re the same thing, two bum —— acting like they’re rappers. They’re not rappers, they just try to talk like them. Floyd Mayweather, man I’ll knock that bum out too. Whenever little Floyd feels big, all he has to do is say the word. Zab and Floyd Mayweather are bums, and if they want to prove me wrong, get in the ring. If they don’t step up, I’m gonna go on Hot 97 again.
