Foreign Minister Rudy Insanally yesterday announced the reposting of Ambassador Bayney Karran to Washington DC as Guyana’s top diplomat to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States. Ambassador Odeen Ishmael, the current ambassador to the United States will replace Karran as Guyana’s ambassador to Venezuela.
Ishmael has been at his post for almost a decade and a United Nations report on the restructuring of the ministry has recommended that the Ministry return to the rotation of its professional staff every three to five years.
Insanally announced the cross postings yesterday when he briefed the media at the Foreign Service Institute, New Garden Street on the President’s visit to India.
Also in their posts for several years now are High Commissioner to the UK, Laleshwar Singh and Ambassador to Suriname, Karshanjee Arjun.
