The Mayor and City Council on Saturday began broadcasting a new programme on the Voice of Guyana (VOG) titled “City Beautiful Quiz and Essay Writing Competition”.
The half-hour programme will be aired every Saturday at 9:30 am and aims to reach a wide cross-section of Guyanese radio listeners. An M&CC release said the programme will feature questions ranging from the history of the capital city to the tourism drive, including the “War on Bad Manners” campaign. The essay- writing competition is for children between 8-11 years residing in Georgetown and aims to get them thinking about keeping their environment clean. The topic in the 300-word essay competition is “That tourism look for Guyana”, the release said.
The M&CC is also putting out a five-minute radio programme titled “The Good Junior Citizen’s Corner” and this is scheduled for broadcast on Fridays at 4:15 pm, also on VOG. The idea here, the release said, is to get children to practise good habits that they can also pass on to the adults in their own circle.
Both programmes are set to run until year-end. Winners will receive prizes donated by the M&CC, the business community and other partners, the release added.
