Detective in army’s flagship ganja case cross-examined by defence

The preliminary inquiry into the discovery of 133 pounds of cannabis aboard the army’s flagship three months ago continued before Senior Magistrate Maxwell Edwards yesterday.

Detective constable Karl Jones concluded his evidence in chief and was crossed-examined by defence counsel Vic Puran. Jones is one of the investigating ranks in the case. The hearing is set to resume on September 10.

The prosecution yesterday tendered the exhibits in court. State counsel Simone Bullen and Paula Gilford are appearing in the capacity of prosecutors. Ex-soldiers able ratings Wayne Inniss of Lamaha Springs and ordinary ratings Shandy Stephens of Dacama Circle, Linden are facing indictable charges of conspiracy to traffick in narcotics and trafficking in narcotics. The duo were jointly charged on July 16.
