The preliminary inquiry into the death of Yohance Douglas resumed yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen.
The prosecution called Police Inspector Ian Amsterdam to the stand and he gave his evidence in chief and was later cross-examined by defence counsel Bernard DeSantos and Compton Richardson. Amsterdam was the Administrative Inspector of the Special Task Force Unit at the time of the alleged shooting.
Senior Counsel DeSantos yesterday declined to cross-examine prosecution witness Patrick Carter. Carter, a police photographer, had testified at the last hearing on September 9. The inquiry is set to continue on September 23.
Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Jo Ann Barlow appears in the capacity of prosecutor while DeSantos and Richardson represent the defendants.
Police officers Mahendra Baijnauth and Gerald Alonzo were jointly charged on March 28 with the unlawful murder of University of Guyana (UG) student Douglas.
