United States based Guyanese racing cyclist Aubrey Gordon secured a silver medal on the final day of the just concluded UCI World Masters Track Championships, staged at the Manchester Velodrome, England.
According to a UCI report, Gordon placed second of 16 starters in a 20-kilometre points race for cyclists 45-49 years of age. the race was won by United States’ Larry Nolan. Third place went to Bernardo Figueroa of Columbia.
Gordon also won a silver and a bronze in the 4th Annual Mount Joy Criterium, Mount Joy, Lancaster County, England, on Tuesday.
In the 20K points race, the American (Nolan) collected 45 points to beat Gordon by just three points. Figueroa accumulated 33 points.
Throughout the race, Gordon held on to a two-point lead over Nolan until the American edged ahead by one point. Nolan took maximum points in the final sprint to secure the gold medal. For Gordon it was an improvement from last year when he won the bronze.
In the Mount Joy Criterium, Gordon first won a bronze medal in an event that attracted 22 starters in the 30 years and over age group, then placed second to Joe Manaccho in a race that had 10 starters.
In another World Masters event, Gordon placed second in heat one of a 40-lap (10K) qualifying round event. First was Canadian John Sutherland. Nolan finished 11th.
Among the other starters in the 20K points race were; David Nisbet, Graham Barday, James Rutherford, Mick Fairest, Garry Hill, Nick Yarworth and Anthony Crabbe of Great Britain, Scot Butler, Jeffrey Filerup and Will Fernyhough of the USA, Jose Darlo Hernandez of Colombia and Dick Nieuwstraten of Holland.
