His Excellency the President of Guyana has attributed "the fresh air" of peace and tranquility being experienced in the nation to the quiet work of many religious leaders.

President Jagdeo made the acknowledgement while declaring open the new building for the Lusignan Baptist Church in Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara yesterday evening.
According to the President the contribution of the churches in this regard is not recognized enough by the Government, but the President pointed out that he has kept his promise made during his inauguration to seek advice from religious leaders.

Along with other religious organizations, President Jagdeo explained that he is working with a coordinating body, which has all the religions working together.

The President revealed that he is in contact with that umbrella body with a view to establishing a subject for the school's curriculum in an effort to create moral value and spiritualism in the lives of the next generation.

Noting that his presence at the function is to show the deep respect Government has for religions President Jagdeo highlighted the high level of tolerance and respect among religions in Guyana.

At the political level the President noted the need for new ways to settle disputes with parties sitting and solving their differences, describing it as a new culture of great tolerance.

The Lusignan Baptist is celebrating 40 years of Christian Ministry - with humble beginning in the 1960s from a bottom house gathering.

Pastor of the Church Dr. Chanderpaul Singh Ram noted that 95% of the finance needed for the new building was made available by the members and friends of the church. The building was built to the tune of G$5.4M.
