THE $5M ransom that kidnappers had asked for Vikikanand Nandlall was reportedly paid, but there has been no sign of the missing man, and relatives fear that the worst must have happened.
The Sunday Chronicle understands that the ransom was paid but Nandlall's abductors have not released him as promised during telephone contact with relatives. The kidnappers have also ceased making contact with the man's relatives since the ransom was paid. The kidnappers are using the victim's cellular phone.
Nandlall, a taxi driver of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, was abducted four days ago by a group of men on the Railway Embankment near Buxton.
A massive search is on in and around Buxton. Police have come up empty-handed after searching several abandoned structures.
The Chronicle was reliably informed that several contacts, which were made to Nandlall's family, revealed that he was still alive about 3:30 hours yesterday. The abductors threatened to kill him if they did not get the money they demanded.
A police press release yesterday said investigations are continuing.
It said that the police are looking for a number of key suspects whom they believe can assist them in this investigation. These persons are Albert Andrews also called `Doney', Roger Bunbury known as `Don Dick', Marvin Archer called `Marvin Peters' or `Skittle', Royston Peters, and Rondell Rollins also called `Fine Man', who are hiding out in Buxton and the surrounding areas.
It further stated that Bunbury is also wanted in connection with the murder of several policemen during the past crime wave.
The release said the men are advised to contact the police authorities immediately, either in company of an Attorney-at-Law or anyone else, "failing which they will have to face the long arm of the law." (Michel Outridge)
